Earl Sir Strider the Persistent

Argent, a bend sinister argent frimbrilated, overall a winged unicorn salient Sable, armed, unguled
and collared of a label trailing a broken chain Or, on a chief Sable a label throughout Argent

I Strider, have found the armour of a General wrapped in oiled cloths, hidden in the mustiness of the storage cavern.

How long has this bundle been forgotten? I do not know. My inquiries have found little valid information but cob webs of mystery.

The old one swore to me that it was the property of my forefather, a great general of Roman stationed here in Briton. It was ancient Briton but times change, rulers change, styles change, the land itself changes. Only need remains the same, and there is so much need.

These people need a leader for so many wonder without a dream. Can’t they see the way? The road is clear. There is no need to falter in our steps. Not when there is vision. What would my ancestor, of whose armour I now hold, do in such a stead? Did he stand as I stand and view this same sunset? Were these his people as they are mine? Why was he made to leave this land and these people? They say when Rome called, one went. There was no other way. Like a call from God himself.

I can see his form in the metal musculature. It is so formed that none could wear it that was not of it’s form. It will fit. Out of style, yes. Old, yes, but there is still strength in it. Strength and a sureness that a man needs. It will help to stiffen the backbone of any man willing to wear it as the enemy comes. Some of our enemies are bold and frontal but others are subtle, not seen in the light of day. I often wonder if they be men or other. Their stealth is of the mind as much as physical. Whether or no, I am led by this find as surely as the loadstone guides true, as if God himself, praised be he, has laid a guise on me to don this garb and office and take up the leadership of these my people.

Will they follow? Have I the foresight for true steps. Will I fail to give good guidance? These things I do not know. But attempt I will. To do otherwise would be my greatest folly.

Oh Lord, I have eyes. Show me the right road and the tripping root. I have shoulders. Give me the strength to carry their burdens and ease the weight of life. And I have ears. Let me hear their needs and your words of wisdom. Guide me. It is my life-long quest.
