Daigo no Akinori

I am Daigo no Akinori. I am the only son of a fifth rank noble in Heian Japan. My family lived in the Japanese capital, Heian-kyo (present day Kyoto) in 1195 during the reign of Emperor Gotoba, but our family estates were on the island of Kyushu. We are a merchant family who fish the waters of Japan for octopus, crabs, perch, and eel. When I first confronted my parents about my strange appearance they told me a fairy tale of how the sea had taken their first son but given me to them from the mouth of a fish. As a young boy raised in a culture steeped in mysticism, this placated me for a while.
I was married to the youngest daughter of a sixth rank noble from the neighboring island of Shikoko to strengthen our ties at court. I was very fond of my wife, Kitsume, but soon grew tired of court intrigues and yearned for some greater challenge. When I contronted my parents again about my appearance they told me the truth of my birth, they didn't know. They had lost their only son to the sea and could not conceive any more children. Then after a horrible storm that destroyed most of the coast but spared their lands, mostly, they had waalked the coast for driftwood and wreckage. They came upon a strange boat filled with strangely familiar fish. I had been inside one of the large fish. They had taken this as a sign that I was compensation from the sea for their first child. At first they had been unsure because I had been two. I wasa pale, like a se imp and spoke in a strange burble. I didn't speak a word of Japanese until I was four or five. After that they had simply told other nobles that I was a gift from the sea. Since the emperor had not objected, I was allowed to live as a noble and train to be a samurai.
I decided to leave Japan to find my true origins, even though an earlier emperor had banned all interaction outside of Japan. So we used her dowry and bought two boats, one that we burned and sank near the coast of shikoku and the other we used to escape to China.
We had wandered China and the Mediterranean when we chanced to meet members from House Persistent. Having been without our families for so long we received their welcome readily and chose to serve Earl Sir Strider as our own father. To this day I still search for my true origins. It is difficult, but I am suure I must be from this area.
The end... or is it?
I still haven't made up my mind for my mon (Japanese heraldry) or my device.
I enjoy many hobbies in the SCA, but none as a true passion. I have fought and will fight again someday. I enjoy making boffers and have been working on my personal armor an weapons for my triumphant return to the field. I am also well versed in the rules and regulations for heraldry in the SCA though I have not pursued that 'officially.' For the most part, I know everything, and if you ask me something I don't know, I'll go and find out.
